Privacy Policy

Federal agencies must ensure the privacy of individuals who visit our public website. (The privacy policy does not apply to the employee website.)

Privacy refers to the American public's relationship with the government. Key factors to be aware of include the need to:

  • Post a "Privacy Act Statement" if you plan to collect information from users.
  • Run a privacy impact assessment on your site (contact your Web Liaison for more details).
  • Post the Privacy Policy at major entry points (templates take care of this).

For more information about Privacy Act Statements, contact the FAA Privacy Division at Privacy@faa.gov or 888-PRIVAC1.

The Privacy Policy lists what information FAA requests from its website users and how the FAA uses this information. All web applications must comply with the terms of the Privacy Policy. If you plan to collect other information that could require requests for exceptions or additions to the Privacy Policy, please contact your Web Liaison.

  • You may use session cookies and persistent cookies. Session cookies collect information about a user only during that particular user session. Persistent cookies collect information from returning users. You must disclose the use of both types of cookies.
  • Each page on FAA's public website, including the first screen of each web-based application, must include a link to FAA's official Privacy Policy. The FAA templates contain the link.

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to the online collection of personal information from children under 13. COPPA spells out what a website developer must include in a privacy policy, when and how to seek verifiable consent from a parent and what responsibilities a developer has to protect children's privacy and safety online.
