This directive provides aircraft type designators (standard abbreviations for aircraft) for the aircraft that most commonly use air traffic services. Aircraft type designators are principally used by air traffic controllers, aircraft operators, and automation systems. Additionally, this directive provides information used by air traffic control for wake turbulence and runway separation.
