- This Order provides the policies and procedures for the administration of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA or Agency) Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) Health Program. The health of Air Traffic Control Specialists is important to the consistency of performance and accuracy of judgment directly affecting public safety in the National Airspace System. Policies and procedures of the Air Traffic Control Specialist Health Program help ensure a safe and efficient air traffic system by use of safety-related medical qualification standards for selection and retention of personnel. A secondary benefit of medical standards and qualification is that it promotes healthful practices and conditions conducive to the continued mental and physical well being necessary for a productive career and safe operations.
